Yes, it seems like every day there’s a new headline about one of our restaurants bringing in national recognition. And it’s no wonder. We’re packed with more than 900 restaurants, and the best are locally owned. Places like Longoven, an unassuming spot Bon Appétit named one of America’s Best New Restaurants for 2019, and Alewife, one of Esquire’s Best New Restaurants in America in 2019. Lehja, Sub Rosa Bakery, Mama J’s Kitchen, L’Opposum, Peter Chang, and Brenner Pass – they’re all James Beard Award nominated restaurants serving up unforgettable experiences. Here, creativity comes by the plateful. And the choices range from awesome food truck fare to white tablecloth chop houses. Bring your friends. Bring your family. And bring your stretchy pants.
The Richmond region knows how to shop. And we have everything from high-end national chains to tiny craftsmen boutiques. The burbs are home to every store you could imagine, plus shopping malls like Chesterfield Town Center and Stony Point Fashion Park, which features luxury brands like Saks and Tiffany & Co. Shop Short Pump Town Center for outdoor lifestyle's top retailers, fashion and accessories, and home decor stores. The kids won't get bored thanks to a train that winds its way throughout the mall. For one of a kind type stuff, you’d probably want to head to Carytown, an eclectic collection of locally owned shops and boutiques. Oh, and craft beer. If you’re into emerging fashion, check out local shops like Verdalina and Utmost. And if you’re into thrifting, we’ve got that covered with high-end vintage shops and antiquing spots everywhere. Home to Ledbury, Shockoe Atelier, and Alton Lane, Richmond also has all of your bespoke tailoring needs covered. Just call us the Savile Row of the East Coast.
So, where are the undiscovered gems in this place? Well, they cover four counties, two cities and a cute little railroad town. Between the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Virginia Museum of History and Culture, The Black History Museum and Cultural Center, The Valentine and the Science Museum of Virginia, the museum scene here will blow your mind. We’ve got a huge outdoor culture here, with the James River Park system, Belle Isle, kayaking on the James and biking on the Virginia Capital Trail. Historic markers are everywhere. The church where Patrick Henry said, “Give me liberty or give me death.” The streets where Jefferson, Lincoln and Poe walked. The spot where Christopher Newport landed in 1607. Henricus, where Pocahontas lived. This place is packed with stories. And restaurants. And bars. And botanical gardens…and…okay, just scroll down and get started.
